This quilt was pieced with a machine and hand quilted. The linen was hand dyed by the artist.
This was hand quilted with thick Sashiko style thread in baptist fan pattern marked with heat erase pens .
The binding is bias cut, sewn onto the front with a machine and hand stitched along the back for hidden seams. Mitered corners on each corner.
The Broken Mirror Quilt is a variation of the snowball block created by mixing sizes and colors. In this approach the cutting had to be precise to maintain rows and columns.
This quilt was planned out ahead of time and quilting without paper piecing. It is 100% linen dyed with natural dyes of lac, cutch, black walnut, logwood, iron, indigo overdyed with cutch, tea, and madder. This is a very colorful quilt with lots of neutrals to balance them out. The back is also 100% linen dyed with a variation of pinks and corals from lac and madder. I used a 100% cotton batting and cotton sashiko style ivory thread.
The center quilt is framed with a 8” wide border and hand quilting in the baptist fan pattern.
